This is a photo of the patterns created on the surface of water that is vibrating to a specific frequency.
I’ve just been doing a lot of reading about symmetry and patterns in nature lately. They pop up everywhere: snowflakes, lightning bolts, rivers, animal coloration patterns, hexagonal clouds on saturn’s south pole, ferns, flowers, electron and planet orbits, galaxies, hurricanes, etc. My physics-naive mind is vaguely wondering if all these phenomena are related. And also, why are these complex patterns so beautiful to humans?
